Generator Technician

About the role

This position is based out of our Clinton, MD office.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel generators.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues, including engines, transfer switches, and controls.
• Conduct load bank testing, fuel system checks, oil changes, and coolant flushes.
• Maintain accurate service records and comply with safety protocols and industry standards.
• Interpret and apply technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.
• Provide clear updates and recommendations to internal teams and customers.
• Travel to job sites as needed and participate in on-call rotations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required, technical certification or associate degree in diesel technology or related field preferred.
• EGSA Certified Technician (strongly preferred).
• Proven experience in diesel engine maintenance and generator servicing.
• Manufacturer-specific training preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Must be eligible for and willing to join IBEW Local 26 as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in various environmental conditions (heat, cold, confined spaces).
• May involve working in remote or outdoor locations.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required, technical certification or associate degree in diesel technology or related field preferred.

Skills

• EGSA Certification (preferred).
• Proven experience in diesel engine maintenance and generator servicing.
• Manufacturer-specific training (e.g., Caterpillar, Cummins, Kohler, Generac).
• Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills.
• Works independently in varied field conditions.
• Maintains accurate records and follows safety protocols.
• Communicates clearly with internal teams and customers.
• Adaptable and reliable under pressure.
