Generator Field Service Technician Level II

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Service, repair, and maintain diesel and gas engine-driven standby generators in the field.
  • Perform scheduled services such as oil & filter changes, spark plug checks, coolant and filter inspections.
  • Conduct visual inspections on mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Clean oil, fuel, and air filters, as well as the exterior of the unit.
  • Test alternators, wiring harnesses, switches, switchgear, and battery systems.
  • Diagnose and analyze failures using multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
  • Commission and start up units according to design reviews, testing, and control panel programming.
  • Document work completed in reports.
  • Communicate with customers about issues and resolutions clearly and concisely.
  • Operate a company service vehicle safely and maintain vehicle inventory.
  • Work independently and on-call as needed.
  • Work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Graduation from a Technical school with courses in generators, diesel, power gen, electric power, relay, or substation technology, etc.
  • Some experience in repair or maintenance of generators preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude can substitute for technical school and generator experience.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • A valid, unrestricted driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and ability to obtain a DOT medical certification.
  • The ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 75 lbs.
  • The ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
