Generator Field Service Technician Level II
Responsibilities & Expectations
- Service, repair, and maintain diesel and gas engine-driven standby generators in the field.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as oil & filter changes, spark plug replacements, coolant checks, and filter cleaning.
- Conduct visual inspections on mechanical and electrical systems.
- Clean oil, fuel, and air filters, cooling systems, and exterior of the unit.
- Test alternators, wiring harnesses, switches, switchgear, battery systems, engines, ATS, and other components.
- Diagnose and analyze failures using multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
- Commission and start up generators according to design reviews, testing, switchgear, and control panel programming.
- Document work completed in reports.
- Communicate with customers about issues and resolutions clearly and concisely.
- Maintain company vehicles and perform safety maintenance.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Graduation from a Technical school with courses in generators, diesel, power gen, electric power, relay, or substation technology.
- Experience in repair or maintenance of generators or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to work independently and on-call as needed.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, manuals, and safety guidelines.
- Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
