Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and start up Weichai natural gas generator sets, including system integration with switchgear, controls, and facility infrastructure.
- Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on gas engines, alternators, fuel systems, and emissions control components.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues using OEM diagnostic tools, software, and technical documentation.
- Conduct performance testing, synchronization, and load bank testing to validate system output and reliability.
- Support commissioning and tuning of gas engines for optimal efficiency, emissions compliance, and performance.
- Inspect and maintain auxiliary systems, including cooling, lubrication, ignition, and fuel delivery systems.
- Interface with control systems, including PLCs, generator controllers, and remote monitoring platforms.
- Document service activities, commissioning reports, and maintenance records in accordance with company and customer requirements.
- Provide technical support and training to customers on operation and maintenance best practices.
- Collaborate with engineering and product support teams to resolve complex technical issues and provide field feedback for continuous product improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
Requirements
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to travel extensively within Illinois and Wisconsin, with flexibility for other regions as needed.
- Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- 3–7+ years of field service experience with gas engines, power generation equipment, or distributed energy systems.
- Strong working knowledge of natural gas engine operation, combustion principles, and generator system components.
- Experience with electrical systems (low and medium voltage), control systems, and engine management systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency with diagnostic software and troubleshooting tools.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively (regional and national).
- Ability to support on-call or emergency services for critical power applications.
Qualifications
- Direct experience with Weichai or comparable high-speed natural gas generator platforms (e.g., Jenbacher, MWM, CAT gas engines).
- Experience supporting data center backup or prime power systems and other mission-critical environments.
- Familiarity with emissions compliance, engine tuning, and air-fuel ratio control systems.
- OEM certifications or factory training on gas generator systems.
- Knowledge of paralleling switchgear and microgrid or distributed energy applications.
- Professional Attributes: Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis, strong customer-facing and communication skills, ability to work independently in field environments with minimal supervision, high attention to safety, quality, and reliability, adaptability in fast-paced, high-growth technical environments.
