Duties/Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Generac standby generator systems and automatic transfer switches (ATS).
- Perform generator startup, commissioning, inspections, and preventive maintenance services.
- Diagnose electrical issues involving generators, transfer switches, control wiring, and related equipment.
- Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct annual maintenance services, including oil changes, battery replacements, filter replacements, software updates, and operational testing.
- Replace batteries, filters, and generator components in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
- Understand combustion systems and gaseous air-cooled generator engines to effectively diagnose and repair equipment.
- Accurately identify defective parts and coordinate ordering of replacement components.
- Communicate findings, repair recommendations, and replacement options to homeowners and customers in a professional manner.
- Generate accurate repair estimates and present repair or replacement solutions to customers.
- Maintain accurate documentation, service reports, photographs, and work orders using company software systems.
- Ensure all work complies with National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, local codes, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Maintain company vehicle, inventory, tools, and equipment.
- Participate in after-hours emergency service and on-call rotations as required.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of residential and light commercial electrical systems.
- Thorough understanding of NEC codes and electrical troubleshooting procedures.
- Experience working with standby generators, automatic transfer switches, and low-voltage control systems.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical issues.
- Strong understanding of combustion systems and gaseous air-cooled engines.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple service calls efficiently.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation using electronic service software.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of residential electrical service experience preferred.
- Current Generac Factory Certification is required.
- Journeyman Electrician License preferred.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders and work in attics, crawl spaces, and other confined spaces.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate tools, testing equipment, and electrical diagnostic devices.
