About the role

The General Supervisor – System Operations manages internal resources, external contracted resources, and business applications/processes based on the needs of the business unit. This includes supervisory tasks in the Systems Operations group related to construction, design, planning, and scheduling for work involving District Regulator Stations, Interstation systems, city-gate stations, and network valves. The role also oversees maintenance and compliance programs for the company’s high-pressure (HP) distribution and distribution infrastructure within an assigned area. General Supervisors ensure all internal and external customers’ needs are met safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner through effective management of personnel, equipment, and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct safety meetings to communicate safety requirements, updates, and required training.
  • Manage work assignments within an assigned area to meet established budgets while maintaining optimal internal and external customer service.
  • Conduct daily tailgate sessions to communicate work assignments, review procedures, and discuss safety hazards and mitigation techniques.
  • Motivate and engage employees to increase efficiency, productivity, availability, safety performance, and core expectations.
  • Coach, counsel, and train employees for improved job performance; implement and administer the progressive disciplinary process when appropriate.
  • Assist in the Operator Qualification process for System Operations personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, codes, and laws for systems operations-related work.
  • Manage area budget by controlling costs of tools, materials, work hours, and vehicle expenses associated with work.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with employees, unions, customers, building trade groups, and government agencies.
  • Engage employees to promote an inclusive workforce and team.
  • Be on-call 24/7 for 13 to 17 weeks a year.
  • Coordinate with other departments for large diameter isolations (shutdowns).
  • Manage emergency situations regarding the Systems Operations Group.
  • Assist in the management of construction projects relating to the Systems Operations Group.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, HSED, or GED.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a gas distribution/construction trade and/or 5-10 years of experience in supervision of direct reports.
  • Working knowledge of union contracts and employee relationship building.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees, contractors, and community groups.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of CFR PART 192 of the federal code related to operating a natural gas delivery system.
  • Working knowledge of Illinois Commerce Commission codes impacting systems operations workloads.
  • Knowledge of PI Vision or some type of SCADA system.
  • Five years of experience with Valve theory/operations/maintenance/compliance.
  • Five years of experience with Gate Station/Regulator Station theory/operations/maintenance/compliance.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $90,507.56 to $135,761.08. The starting salary within this range will be based on relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.
