About the Role
The General Supervisor, Operations is responsible for planning, scheduling, and assigning work to wage earner employees engaged in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of the gas distribution system, gas equipment such as meters, regulators, appliances, and interior piping on customer premises. They oversee the completion of safety surveys and other regulatory compliance work, ensure the protection of company property, and approve the issuance of tools, materials, and other supplies to wage earners. This role involves effective communication and issue resolution with customers and industry professionals regarding gas piping facilities, pertinent codes, and company practices.
As a leader of regular direct reports, this position supervises a specialized team or work group to comply with relevant company policies, practices, and strategies, promotes company values, and ensures effective staffing, employee development, and performance.
Responsibilities
- Supervise wage earner employees in field operations, including scheduling, assigning, and dispatching work; conducting tailgates and safety meetings; and enforcing company rules, policies, and procedures. Issue disciplinary action when required.
- Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of company appurtenances for the gas distribution system.
- Supervise and assist wage earners on main, service, and meter work, and obtain jobbing contracts for related service work as necessary.
- Provide technical assistance to gas department personnel using systems such as Open C, Maximo, and P-Field to ensure proper work assignment and completion.
- Instruct and train employees on proper work methods, construction and maintenance of the distribution system, use and care of tools and equipment, and safe work habits.
- Monitor GPS, workload, and troubleshoot portable computer problems.
- Coordinate emergency work with other departments, requiring on-call availability.
- Consult with customers, builders, and contractors on service problems and the installation of new mains and services, informing them of company policies and applicable code requirements.
- Inspect finished work to ensure it conforms to specifications, approving or disapproving work and resolving conflicts with customers.
- Consult with vendors on new tools, equipment, and other services.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, HSED, or GED.
- 3+ years of experience with standard computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- 3+ years of experience with specialty computer applications (Advantex, C-First, DMIS, etc.).
- 3+ years of formal or informal leadership experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Gas Operations, Distribution, or Construction.
- 5+ years of experience working with and understanding related codes (Title 49 CFR 192, IL Admin Rules, etc.).
Pay
The pay range for this position is $90,507.56 to $135,761.08. The starting salary within this range will be based on relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.
