About the Role
This temporary position provides instructional and non-instructional support in the school setting, primarily assigned to the health clinic, assisting school staff.
Responsibilities
- Provides support to assist with the efficient operation of all health room/clinic responsibilities as directed and supervised by a certificated school nurse.
- Performs routine first aid procedures and assists in screening ill or injured children according to established procedures.
- Administers medications and provides medical treatments according to district procedures and provider orders under the delegation of a school nurse.
- Documents supports and services provided, including injury forms and other reports.
- Assists with the preparation and arrangements for health testing screenings (vision, hearing) and enters results into the computer system under the direction of the school nurse.
- Helps track student immunizations and may be trained to enter immunizations in the state database.
- Refers suspected child abuse or serious illness/injuries to school nurse/counselor/administrator immediately while maintaining confidentiality.
- Maintains Parent Designated Adult (PDA) training if applicable.
- May provide support to teachers with materials, supplies, and copying.
- May perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting student progress within a classroom setting.
- May work with individual students or small groups of students in a classroom setting as directed by a certificated staff member.
- May record observations and data regarding student progress as directed by the classroom teacher or administrator.
- Assists with before or after school activities and may accompany groups of students on field trips and other outings.
- Attends staff meetings and participates in professional development and training as required.
- May work with English Language Learners, requiring an understanding of their unique needs.
- May provide clerical and other support if assigned to a school office or non-classroom setting.
- May supervise students in non-classroom settings, including lunchroom, playground, or crosswalks, and may supervise parking lots as required.
- Collaborates with other staff members as required for the assignment.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
This role requires handling interruptions, performing or tracking multiple tasks simultaneously, remaining flexible under pressure, and responding appropriately to various situations.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- At least one of the following:
- ETS Paraeducator Assessment, or
- Associate of Arts degree (original transcripts), or
- 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education (original transcripts), or
- Completion of a registered apprenticeship program (certificate).
- Foreign degrees accepted if evaluated by a NACES member company.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a school setting.
- Spanish speaking ability.
- Associate degree or equivalent.

- Basic academic knowledge in core content areas with a focus on math and reading.
- Understanding of child development basics.
- Awareness of cultural and racial diversity.
- Basic computer skills, including keyboarding and data entry.
- Understanding of basic safety and emergency procedures, including hygiene and cleanliness.

Physical Requirements
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
Pay
AISP pay range B: $26.52 to $28.47 per hour (starting wage is $26.52).
Schedule
30.75 hours per week for a 192-day annual assignment. Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7:30am–2:45pm and Wednesday 8:00am–12:45pm.
