General Pathology

About the Role

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital is recruiting for a Canadian Royal College certified General Pathologist, or board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist (AP/CP), for a three-person practice. Our group performs approximately 8,500 surgical pathology cases per year.

Responsibilities

• General surgical pathology and cytology case sign out
• Clinical pathology case sign out (e.g. peripheral blood smears, bone marrow biopsies)
• Transfusion medicine and local laboratory oversight
• Opportunity for medical directorship of rural area labs

Requirements

• Canadian Royal College certified General Pathologist, or board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist (AP/CP)
• Recent clinical pathology experience
• Strong skills in surgical pathology and laboratory diagnostics, including transfusion medicine and hematopathology
• Comfortable with independent practice in a small group environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to relate well with laboratory staff, clinicians, and administration

Practice Details

• Autopsies are not currently performed at this site
• Daily quality assurance videoconference with other Interior Health pathologists to share interesting or difficult cases
• Intramural or extramural consultation for challenging or unusual cases readily available, including outside consultation at academic medical center sites in Vancouver
• Open to new graduates or experienced pathologists

Compensation

Clinical Service Contract. Estimated remuneration $380,812–$423,125 based on a provincially negotiated salary grid: 90% in year 1, 95% in year 2, and 100% from year 3 onward.

• Retention Flat Fee: $17,790
• Relocation Funding Available: $9,000–$15,000 based on move location
• Recruitment Incentive: $15,000
• Rural CME (RCME): $600 for up to 2 years in Trail, $3,600 during 3rd and 4th year, and $6,600 after 4 years, in addition to the Doctors of BC CME funds
• May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA)
