General Operator - 3rd Shift (10PM-6AM)
General Operators start at $21.17 per hour + $0.75 per hour shift premium. Additional pay increases at 6 months and 1 year of employment.
About the role
Tenneco Litchfield is a manufacturing facility in the Clean Air division of Tenneco. The primary focus is producing full exhaust systems and related components for OEMs (Automotive Plants) and aftermarket parts. Major customers include General Motors, Ford, Toyota, VW, Nissan, and many aftermarket vehicle replacement parts.
The facility has three departments: Canning, Bending, and Final Assembly.
- Canning: Production zone where catalytic converters and filters are assembled and sealed inside metal outer shells.
- Bending: Shapes straight metal into complex, curved forms to fit under vehicles, including tail pipes.
- Final Assembly: Bent pipes, stuffed cans, hangers, and flanges are welded together to create vehicle-ready exhaust systems.
Responsibilities
Responsible for tending to metal fabricating machines such as cut-off saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, sizers, forming machines, spinning machines, and punches that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures.
- Produce parts as directed by material control or the engineering department to meet required production levels and quality standards.
- Prepare and inspect parts for final production.
- Run first-time production parts as directed and perform Poka Yokes.
- Participate in job rotation through each cell to address cross-training and ergonomic issues.
- Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Set stops or guides to specified lengths as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
- Position work pieces against stops or align layout marks with die or blades.
- Activate machines via buttons or pedals.
- Observe machine operations to detect defects or malfunctions.
- Monitor output quality through inspection, scrap records, statistical process controls, and station control sheets.
- Measure work piece dimensions to ensure accuracy.
- Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work pieces.
- Perform 5S activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to read and comprehend work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions in English.
- Ability to write simple correspondence in English.
- Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Clear communication with supervisors, peers, or subordinates via phone, writing, or in person.
- Ability to identify operating errors and assist in problem-solving.
- Teamwork capabilities.
- Proficiency with hand tools.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
