About the Role

Tenneco Litchfield is a manufacturing facility in the Clean Air division, producing full exhaust systems and related components for OEMs (automotive plants) and aftermarket parts. The facility operates three departments: Canning (assembly of catalytic converters and filters), Bending (shaping metal into curved forms for vehicle fitment), and Final Assembly (welding components into complete exhaust systems).

Responsibilities

  • Operate metal fabricating machines such as cut-off saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, sizers, forming machines, spinning machines, and punches to cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures.
  • Produce parts as directed by material control or engineering to meet production levels and quality standards.
  • Prepare and inspect parts for final production, including running first-time production parts and performing Poka Yokes.
  • Participate in job rotation across cells for cross-training and ergonomic purposes.
  • Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Set stops or guides to specified lengths using scales, rules, or templates.
  • Position workpieces against stops or align layout marks with dies or blades.
  • Activate machines via buttons or pedals and monitor operations for defects or malfunctions.
  • Ensure quality output through inspections, scrap records, statistical process controls, and station control sheets.
  • Measure workpiece dimensions to verify machine accuracy.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpieces.
  • Perform 5S activities and other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend work instructions, safety rules, and operating/maintenance instructions in English.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence in English.
  • Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Clear communication with supervisors, peers, or subordinates via phone, writing, or in person.
  • Ability to identify operating errors and assist in problem-solving.
  • Teamwork capabilities.
  • Proficiency with hand tools.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.

Physical Demands

  • Standing for long periods.
  • Use of hands to handle tools or controls.
  • Reaching with hands and arms; talking and hearing.
  • Occasional walking, stooping, crawling, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Repeatedly lifting, tugging, or moving up to 35 pounds (occasionally more).
  • Close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to move throughout the plant in both office and manufacturing areas.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to extreme heat, fumes, odors, dirt, dust, noise, and moving objects.

Performance Expectations

  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
  • Punctuality at the start of shifts and after breaks.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation.
