About the role

Process incoming and outgoing prisoner and institutional mail and property. Type reports, file, and maintain daily reports and logs. Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and/or personal contact with prisoners. Operate computer, calculator, and computerized mailing system.

  • Type reports, file, and maintain daily reports and logs
  • Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and/or personal contact with prisoners
  • Operate computer, calculator, and computerized mailing system

Requirements

  • Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school
  • Administrative support experience varies by level:
    • General Office Assistant 5: No specific type or amount of experience is required
    • General Office Assistant 6: One year of administrative support experience
    • General Office Assistant E7: Two years of administrative support experience, including one year equivalent to the intermediate level
  • Certain positions may require a criminal history background check
  • Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation
  • Employment demands a high degree of loyalty and imposes high ethical standards; employees must report any possible conflict of interest

Training

New hires and returning employees (after more than two years away) will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) with either 40 or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on offender contact and job classification. Additional online training is required. Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
