The starting pay range for this position is $27.75 - $29.75 per hour. The full pay range is $27.75 - $47.15 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.

As a General Merchandise Team Leader, you will enable a consistent experience for our guests by focusing on operations, process, and efficiency. Teams in General Merchandise (GM) prioritize guest experience while blending completion of tasks that ensure product is available and easy to shop, including replenishment, pricing, signing, setting, and maintaining the sales floor and backroom.
Responsibilities
- Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an easy, inspiring, and friendly experience.
- Ensure every team member understands, is trained, and consistently delivers on Target’s guest experience commitments and operational standards.
- Actively observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments.
- Review area guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action to improve, and align the team on the right behaviors and execution.
- Lead the execution of daily/weekly workload to deliver on department and store sales goals and guest engagement, including receiving products, merchandising, signing, setting, and updating merchandise sales floor displays, sampling, restocking shelves, organizing backrooms, and price changes for GM areas.
- Educate your team on how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
- Assess reporting to identify gaps in GM processes and assist in developing a plan to resolve them for your direct leader’s review and approval.
- Be an expert in operations, accuracy, process, and efficiency.
- Assign daily tasks to team members based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns, ensuring alignment with weekly and monthly business priorities.
- Help establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable to them.
- Lead pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work accurately (if applicable) and assess reporting to identify gaps and develop improvement plans.
- Ensure product is in stock, available, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor while prioritizing guest experience.
- Collaborate with all teams and leaders to ensure the store is guest-ready.
- Stay informed about relevant trends and products to educate team members during team connection moments.
- Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team. Model best practices for onboarding and learning, and help close skill gaps through development and coaching.
- Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes while maintaining a compliance culture, including adherence to federal, state, and local adult beverage laws.
- Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences.
- Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, follow all Target policies and safety procedures, and adhere to role-specific guidelines (e.g., food safety, pricing).
- Maintain a safe, compliant workplace by reporting and correcting hazards, and lead the team to do the same.
- Lead and demonstrate a safety culture through modeling and recognizing safe behaviors, identifying and correcting hazards, and holding the team accountable.
- Model the execution of physical security processes to enhance in-store security culture.
- Support merchandise protection strategies across the store, including ordering, storage, and application as directed by best practices.
- Occasionally assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities to enable the guest experience during assigned shifts.
- Address all store emergency and compliance needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Age 18 or older.
- Previous retail experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
- Effective communication skills using multiple frequency devices, handheld scanners, and other technology equipment.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
- Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes.
- Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.

Schedule
- Open to working a variable work schedule with varying hours, days, or shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays, closing shifts, and other peak shopping times).
- Full-time role, but hours may fluctuate based on business needs and are not guaranteed at 40 hours each week.
Physical Requirements
- Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues.
- Interpret instructions, reports, and information.
- Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
- Climb up and down ladders.
- Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds without additional assistance.
- Capable of working in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing job duties, including Drive-Up and carryout.
- Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).
