About the role
As a General Merchandise Team Leader, you’ll enable a consistent experience for guests by ensuring product is in stock, available, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor. You’ll lead a team to prioritize guest experience while blending completion of tasks that ensure product is easy to shop—replenishment, pricing, signing, setting, and maintaining the sales floor and backroom. You’ll also execute inbound, outbound, and fulfillment responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an Easy, Inspiring, and Friendly experience. Train and hold team members accountable while recognizing great guest moments.
- Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action, and align the team on behaviors that drive results and elevate the guest experience.
- Lead daily/weekly workload execution to meet department and store sales goals, including receiving, merchandising, signing, setting, and updating sales floor displays, sampling, restocking, organizing backrooms, and price changes for GM areas.
- Educate your team on how operational procedures (e.g., setting up merchandise, managing stock levels) impact inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
- Assess reporting to identify gaps in GM processes and assist in developing resolution plans for leader review.
- Assign daily tasks based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns, ensuring alignment with business priorities set by your leader.
- Help establish clear goals and expectations, holding team members accountable with guidance from your leader.
- Lead pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work accurately (if applicable) and assess reporting to identify gaps and develop improvement plans.
- Collaborate with all teams and leaders to ensure the store is guest-ready, aligning with your leader’s direction.
- Stay informed about trends and products to educate team members during connection moments.
- Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team as directed by your leader.
- Model best practices for team onboarding and learning; close skill gaps through coaching and interactions.
- Identify team members for future leader positions and build a talent pool within your department.
- Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment while maintaining compliance.
- Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices, creating equitable experiences, and fostering ethical conduct.
- Maintain a safe, compliant workplace by reporting and correcting hazards; lead the team to follow safety expectations.
- Model physical security processes to enhance in-store security culture and support merchandise protection strategies.
- Occasionally assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities to enable the guest experience during assigned shifts.
- Address all store emergency and compliance needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Age 18 or older.
- Previous retail experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
- Experience communicating on multiple frequency devices, handheld scanners, and other technology.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team, managing workload and prioritizing tasks.
- Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment, accomplishing tasks within timeframes.
- Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
- Effective communication skills.
- Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues.
- Interpret instructions, reports, and information accurately.
- Handle cash register operations as needed.
- Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving up to 44 pounds without assistance.
- Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, holidays); reliable and prompt attendance required.
- Capable of working in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements (e.g., Drive-Up, carryout).
- Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).

- Retail business fundamentals, including department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing, and promotions strategies.

Pay
The starting pay range for this position is $23.75 - $25.75 per hour. The full pay range is $23.75 - $40.40 per hour. Pay is based on several factors, including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
