Starting pay range: $21.50 - $23.50 per hour. Full pay range: $21.50 - $36.55 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.

As a General Merchandise Team Leader, you will enable a consistent experience for our guests by prioritizing guest experience while blending completion of tasks that ensure product is available and easy to shop—replenishment, pricing and signing, setting, and maintaining the sales floor and the backroom. The GM teams also execute inbound, outbound, and fulfillment responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an easy, inspiring, and friendly experience. Ensure every team member understands and is trained on Target’s guest experience commitments.
  • Actively observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments.
  • Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action to improve, and align the team on the right behaviors and execution.
  • Lead the execution of daily/weekly workload to deliver on department and store sales goals, including receiving products, merchandising, signing, setting, and updating merchandise sales floor displays, sampling, restocking shelves, organizing backrooms, and price changes for GM areas.
  • Educate your team on how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
  • Assess reporting to identify gaps in GM processes and assist in developing a plan to resolve them.
  • Assign daily tasks to team members based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns, ensuring alignment with weekly and monthly business priorities.
  • Help establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable.
  • Lead pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work accurately and assess reporting to identify gaps.
  • Ensure product is in stock, available, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor while prioritizing guest experience.
  • Collaborate with all teams and leaders to ensure the store is guest-ready.
  • Stay informed about relevant trends and products to educate team members.
  • Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team.
  • Model a culture of executing best practices and help close skill gaps through development, coaching, and team interactions.
  • Identify team members for future leader positions and build a talent pool within your department.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes while maintaining compliance.
  • Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences.
  • Adhere to all Target policies and safety procedures, maintain a safe and compliant workplace, and report hazards.
  • Lead and demonstrate a safety culture by modeling and recognizing safe behaviors.
  • Support merchandise protection strategies across the store.
  • Occasionally assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities to enable the guest experience during assigned shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Age 18 or older
  • Previous retail experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable
  • Effective communication on multiple frequency devices and operation of handheld scanners and other technology equipment
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members
  • Access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues
  • Interpret instructions, reports, and information
  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds without additional assistance
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, and holidays); reliable and prompt attendance necessary
  • Capable of working in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing job duties
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift
