About the Role

Teams in General Merchandise (GM) prioritize guest experience while blending completion of tasks that ensure product is available and easy to shop—replenishment, pricing and signing, setting, and maintaining the sales floor and the backroom. The GM teams also execute inbound, outbound, and fulfillment responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an easy, inspiring, and friendly experience
  • Ensure team members understand, are trained on, and deliver Target’s guest experience commitments and consistent operations
  • Observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments
  • Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, improve execution, and celebrate wins
  • Lead execution of daily/weekly workload to meet department and store sales goals and guest engagement, including receiving, merchandising, signing, setting, and updating sales floor displays
  • Educate team on how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability
  • Assess reporting to identify gaps in GM processes and assist in developing resolution plans
  • Assign daily tasks based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns, aligning with business priorities
  • Help establish clear goals and expectations, holding team members accountable
  • Lead pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work accurately and assess reporting to identify gaps
  • Ensure product is in stock, available, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure the store is guest-ready
  • Stay informed about trends and products to educate team members
  • Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team
  • Model and reinforce best practices through coaching and team interactions
  • Identify team members for future leader positions and build a talent pool
  • Support guest services, including back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes
  • Demonstrate inclusivity, ethical conduct, and adherence to safety procedures
  • Lead and model a safety culture, correcting hazards and reporting injuries
  • Support merchandise protection strategies and follow physical security processes
  • Occasionally assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Age 18 or older
  • Previous retail experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable
  • Experience communicating on multiple frequency devices and operating handheld scanners
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage workload and prioritize tasks
  • Capability to remain focused in a fast-paced environment and accomplish tasks within timeframes
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues
  • Ability to interpret instructions, reports, and information
  • Capability to handle cash register operations as needed
  • Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds
  • Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays, closing shifts, and peak shopping times)
  • Reliable and prompt attendance
  • Capability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift
