About the role

The General Mechanic-Electrician position is essential and requires journeyman work in the Electrical trade, as well as skilled and semiskilled duties within the maintenance series. This position adheres to National Guard Bureau standards and agency and labor contract duties.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, maintain, install, inspect and test all electrical systems and equipment.
  • Operate electrical test equipment.
  • Read circuit diagrams, architectural blueprints, generator and motor control diagrams.
  • Plan, design or sketch the layout, location and installation of wiring and equipment.
  • Locate and determine electrical malfunctions using test instruments.
  • Test electrical equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Inspect circuits and wiring for specified shielding and grounding.
  • Install fixtures, motors and electrical equipment.
  • Replace bearings in motors.
  • Plan, layout, install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.
  • Plan new or modified installations.
  • Prepare sketches showing location of all wiring and equipment.
  • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and install control and distribution apparatus.
  • Test, adjust, calibrate and maintain control equipment.
  • Read and interpret facility and grounds plans, specifications, manuals and blueprints.
  • Use any and all computer software related to the trade specialty.

Job Requirements

  • Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local codes, standards, rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the trade.
  • Ability to operate and maintain assigned tools, machinery and equipment safely.
  • Ability to train others in trade skills and tasks.
  • Ability to plan and schedule work.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications.
  • Ability to supervise effectively.
  • Ability to work outside in various temperatures and inclement weather.
  • Ability to analyze project needs and communicate.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, other motorized equipment and a variety of construction equipment.
  • Ability to perform routine repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to make standard arithmetic computations.
  • Ability to get along with and interact well with different groups of people.
  • Ability to follow directions, ensure follow through and completion of assignments.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Ability to demonstrate reliability and trustworthiness.
  • Ability to prepare written material clearly and concisely.
  • Must successfully complete training for assigned data systems.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
