About the role

The General Manager of Operations is a highly visible leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, operation, compliance, and financial results for a designated operation. This individual serves as the primary customer interface for leadership decisions regarding proposal approval and contract negotiations, champions continuous improvement activities, LEAN practices, supply chain analysis, Six Sigma initiatives, and ISO activities, and develops marketing plans to grow new business. The role ensures adherence to corporate mission, vision, and core values while meeting client and company expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure systems and procedures are in place for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably in accordance with company policies and guidelines.
  • Lead operations to meet productivity and service goals, complying with site operating agreements with clients.
  • Drive company Continuous Improvement efforts and maintain productive business relations with vendors, suppliers, and partners.
  • Ensure OSHA requirements and all federal and state compliance laws are effectively implemented.
  • Develop and manage controls to meet service level and operational performance goals within cost, revenue, and profit parameters.
  • Partner with senior leadership to develop and recommend the annual operating budget.
  • Oversee the overall safety and security of the operation and develop the team to achieve company and client objectives.
  • Actively support mentoring, succession planning, and management development activities.
  • Communicate the company’s mission, vision, and core values to motivate direct reports.
  • Develop plans and capital requests to ensure appropriate automation/technology for client service.
  • Ensure necessary computer software and hardware are purchased in accordance with Corporate IT policies.
  • Act as the site-level champion of client relationship management, ensuring client accounts receive required operational and administrative support.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with all functions and coordinate business reviews with clients and company representatives.
  • Promote positive client relationships through excellent customer service.
  • Assist in planning new account strategies, prospecting for opportunities, and developing quoting rates.
  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget, ensuring compliance with contract guidelines.
  • Maintain contract pricing in a multi-client environment.
  • Manage programs for maintaining company standards of sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety, and equipment, including material handling equipment (MHE).
  • Ensure team members are properly trained on MHE and stay informed about relevant new technology.
  • Achieve company safety goals by establishing a proactive and participative safety culture.
  • Audit the warehouse for compliance with safety, security, and quality principles.
  • Ensure adherence to all federal, provincial, or statutory health and safety requirements.
  • Work overtime as dictated by business needs and perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • 7 years of experience in logistics, distribution, or a relevant environment.
  • 5 years of experience in a leadership role within logistics, distribution, or supply chain operations management.
  • Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures (mild to moderate).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and applicable WMS systems.
  • Strong English language skills (reading, writing, verbal) for business communication at all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and timely task completion.
  • Good organizational, personnel, and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Advanced expertise in accounting and financial mathematical applications for managing P&L and preparing budgets.
  • Ability to motivate self and others, create a sense of urgency, and delegate appropriately in a complex environment.
  • Ability to adapt to change and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to develop effective relationships, provide leadership, and integrate diverse organizations toward unifying objectives.

Pay

Expected base pay range: $113,040.00 – $141,300.00. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location.
