General Manager - Operations

About the role

Overall operations responsibility for the planning, strategic direction, customer focus and delivery of products and services in a site. Provides people and financial leadership to grow both revenues and profit performance and to improve the quality of products and services. Builds customer loyalty. Anticipates and/or design future change and implement through rapid sustainable change to achieve above average standards of customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect supervision to all subordinate managers and employees at a site.
• Long-term planning, objective setting, policy formation, interpretation and management while providing latitude and discretion to subordinates.
• Overall P&L responsibility for site operations.
• Investigating and resolving a wide variety of highly unusual conditions that carry long-term implications.
• Developing new strategies, policies, practices, methods, programs or techniques and utilizing them to analyze and interpret difficult problems or situations and/or establishing new strategic direction that is site or multi-site specific.
• Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.
• Overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods and employees in a functional area.
• Makes final decisions on administrative and operational matters in area of responsibility to ensure achievement of objectives.
• Directs and controls the activities of a broad functional area through several department managers.
• Assigns objectives, reviews performance and approves employee compensation, coaches for improved performance.
• Regularly interacts with executives and/or major customers; interactions involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers.
• May represent the organization in public speaking venues and/or community events.
• Manages all functions including manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain with a strong focus on quality and inventory and materials management.
• Manages dotted line relationships with Finance, Human Resources, IT, and other support functions.
• Provides functional direction to all indirect areas supporting site business.
• Manages the facility with responsibility for the operations of the building including maintenance, security, safety, cleanliness, etc.
• Manages transitions to new scales of operations; manages New Product Introductions and Product Transfers.
• Understands the business opportunities or conditions that drive high utilization for the facility and uses appropriate judgement to make the right selection.
• Balances the creation of an empowered culture with the need to follow up closely enough to ensure high standards of execution.
• Instills in the management team a focus on Operations Excellence through flawless execution i.e., detail and discipline in an environment of increasing complexity by utilizing World Class Manufacturing practices and 6 Sigma quality initiatives.
• Applies best practices aligned to the appropriate operations model(s) for the facility.
