General Maintenance Worker II
About the Role
Amentum is seeking a General Maintenance Worker II to join the operations & maintenance team in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This multi-craft position provides an intermediate level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and performing repairs to fixtures and systems in a critical infrastructure environment. The role involves general maintenance of equipment, including minor carpentry, painting, and sheet metal duties, as well as support for licensed trades. The position requires independent equipment evaluations to identify potential failures and the ability to work under minimal supervision as part of a self-directed work team.
Responsibilities
- Perform planned maintenance on building equipment and related services while being responsive to customer needs.
- Operate and maintain HVAC equipment and systems, demonstrating proficiency with pneumatic, electric, and electronic control systems.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heating and ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, air dryers, compressors, and other mechanical equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections and develop planned maintenance procedures.
- Maintain spare parts inventory and communicate parts consumption to stock personnel.
- Assist in installing, inspecting new equipment, and servicing installations.
- Support co-workers, contractors, vendors, project managers, building managers, and engineers for project and renovation work.
- Comply with all governmental, company, and industrial regulations, codes, and standards, including health and safety practices and permit systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Respond to work orders, providing service and feedback to customers while ensuring compliance with codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Recommend measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
- Follow proper safety guidelines, including job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout procedures, and wearing required PPE.
- Operate measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments to provide energy efficiency solutions.
- Use hand tools, laptop computers, and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
- Maintain flexibility in daily activities and scheduling to meet customer needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by a Manager or Supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
- Three years of experience as an HVAC/R Maintenance Technician or Facility Maintenance Technician in a data center, industrial environment, hospital, laboratory, manufacturing facility, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work in an aerial lift or scissor lift at heights up to 30 feet or higher.
- Valid Driver’s License may be required.
- Ability to obtain a security access badge at the client’s location.
- Demonstrated fluency in computer use, including the full Microsoft product line.
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive wrist movement for some tasks.
- Ability to walk extensively throughout facilities during a workday.
- Ability to climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs as needed.
- Flexibility to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, and stretch during the workday.
- Ability to differentiate colors for wire color-coding.
- Ability to read and understand information from documents or computer screens.
- Ability to use office equipment and operate a computer keyboard for accessing databases and preparing documents.
- Ability to attend meetings on-site and travel to other Amentum, customer, or vendor locations, including occasional air travel.
- Ability to communicate via telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings, and presentations.
- Ability to move light to medium weight materials into storage locations.
- Ability to interact professionally with clients, even during periods of stress.
Special Requirements
- Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
- Ability to cope with job-related stressors while maintaining acceptable levels of performance.
Other Attributes
- Willingness to work overtime when required, including holidays and weekends.

Pay
Hiring salary range: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour. Salary is determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
