General Maintenance Worker I

About the role

Tessera is seeking a motivated General Maintenance Worker (GMW) to assist with the upkeep and repair of facilities for WSBOSC. This entry-level role performs unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks across building, plumbing, electrical, structural, grounds, and equipment systems. Working under the guidance of skilled tradesmen and foremen, the GMW will gain hands-on experience and develop skills toward becoming semi-skilled in building and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tasks including applying touch-up paint, caulking, replacing floor and ceiling tile, replacing electrical outlets, switching covers and bulbs, repairing/replacing door hardware, and cleaning roof drains and gutters
• Assist skilled workers in performing various electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or masonry work
• Maintain and upkeep buildings, grounds, and equipment
• Communicate and interact directly with customers and supervisors, informing customers of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs
• Respond to customer inquiries and complaints
• Ensure completed work meets quality control standards
• Make difficult diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to customers and supervisors
• Communicate with the scheduler to update the status of repairs and estimate completion dates

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required
• 0-3 years in general maintenance or closely related field
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, occasionally in adverse weather conditions
• Ability to work in a variety of different environments, including high places
• Good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, physical fitness, and a good sense of balance

Physical requirements

• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds
• May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties
• Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking
• Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required
• Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time

Requirements

• Valid state driver's license required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance
• Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID
• Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access
• A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position
• Per government contract requirements, satisfactory proof of U.S. citizenship is required for admission to the work site
