About the role
Tessera is seeking a motivated General Maintenance Worker (GMW) to assist with the upkeep and repair of facilities for WSBOSC. This entry-level role performs unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks across building, plumbing, electrical, structural, grounds, and equipment systems. Working under the guidance of skilled tradesmen and foremen, the GMW will gain hands-on experience and develop skills toward becoming semi-skilled in building and equipment maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of tasks including applying touch-up paint, caulking, replacing floor and ceiling tile, replacing electrical outlets, switching covers and bulbs, repairing/replacing door hardware, and cleaning roof drains and gutters
- Assist skilled workers in performing various electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or masonry work
- Maintain and upkeep buildings, grounds, and equipment
- Communicate and interact directly with customers and supervisors, informing customers of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints
- Ensure completed work meets quality control standards
- Make difficult diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to customers and supervisors
- Communicate with the scheduler to update the status of repairs and estimate completion dates
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED required
- 0-3 years in general maintenance or closely related field
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, occasionally in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to work in a variety of different environments, including high places
- Good manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, physical fitness, and a good sense of balance
Physical requirements
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds
- May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties
- Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking
- Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required
- Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time
Requirements
- Valid state driver's license required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance
- Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID
- Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access
- A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position
- Per government contract requirements, satisfactory proof of U.S. citizenship is required for admission to the work site
