About the role

The General Maintenance Worker position at Minneapolis College is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all customers. Key responsibilities include completing seasonal cleaning projects, setting up facilities for special events, and ensuring the operation of equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Complete seasonal cleaning projects, including carpet extraction, stripping and waxing floors, and detailed cleaning as assigned.
  • Report any defective, broken, or unsafe equipment to the supervisor and attach a tag indicating the problem, date, and name of the person reporting it.
  • Perform routine set-up for events across campus, including moving furniture, tables, staging, and other equipment, which may involve some heavy lifting.
  • Operate and store equipment and supplies safely, utilizing appropriate personnel safety equipment.
  • Clean and disinfect urinals, toilets, sinks, counters, and work areas using trigger sprayers and C3 machines.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate knowledge of different types of flooring and appropriate cleaning methods, possess knowledge of chemical cleaning agents and their safe handling, and have the ability to follow instructions and identify potential safety hazards.

  • Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents, and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perceive and determine potential safety hazards.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited direction.
  • Ability to use database programs sufficient to enter and retrieve information and keep simple records.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly engage in bending, lifting, and maneuvering tasks.
  • Navigate uneven terrains while moving from place to place.
  • Maintain seated or standing positions for prolonged duration.
  • Frequently transport items up to 25 pounds.

  • Current and/or former employees must be in good standing with Minneapolis College for consideration.
