Position Location
This position will be located onsite in San Diego, California.
Job Overview
The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of interior and exterior of buildings, low voltage electrical systems, and components associated with HVAC facilities and equipment. Additionally, manage and maintain all furnishings, appliances and equipment, and BEQ HVAC facilities and inventories. Coordinate disposal of government assets that are in excess or to be replaced. Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions. Follows established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing that pertain to trades and skills. Replace HVAC unit motor belts, exhaust fan belts, and various filters. Use plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings. Replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors. Perform general maintenance on equipment, machinery, and vehicles. Ensures proper housekeeping practices are observed.
Responsibilities
- Assists HVAC Technician(s) on assigned tasks to perform Preventative Maintenance on MCAS Miramar BEQ HVAC units and equipment.
- Manage and maintain all furnishings, appliances and equipment, and BEQ HVAC facilities and inventories.
- Cookout disposal of government assets that are in excess or to be replaced.
- Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions.
- Follows established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing that pertain to trades and skills.
- Replace HVAC unit motor belts, exhaust fan belts, and various filters.
- Use plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings.
- Replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
- Perform general maintenance on equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
- Ensures proper housekeeping practices are observed.
Job Requirements
- Mandatory: Three years’ experience in the trades industry service and maintenance operations.
- OSHA 30-Hour Training for General Industry (or ability to complete within 120-calendar days of hire).
- Must be able to read and interpret plans, schematics specifications, operating and maintenance manuals, codes, and regulations.
- General knowledge of hand and power tools.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Valid class C state driver’s license with suitable driving record (must provide current driving record).
- Must be able to don required personal protective equipment.
- Able to pass and maintain cleared background check.
- US Citizen or ability to legally work in the US.
Preferred
- Technical, vocational or trade school graduate or equivalent.
- Experience working on military installations.
Working Conditions
Work is performed mostly indoors. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. Work hours are subject to change, with weekend work or overtime as needed. Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust, odors, and elevated noise levels. Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard, and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces, including use of ladders and access passages to rooftops and elevated HVAC units. Must be able to work under, in or around buildings, structures, or fixtures, such as ducting systems, attics or crawl spaces.
Physical Requirements
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, sit, use of hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, or smell.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
