About the role

The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.

Responsibilities

  • Replace electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors.
  • Use plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings.
  • Repair or replace sinks, water coolers, and toilets.
  • Paint structures and equipment.
  • Repair or replace concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.
  • Replace damaged paneling and floor tiles.
  • Hang doors and install door locks.
  • Replace broken window panes.
  • Perform general maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • Support duties for Facility Maintenance, Grounds, Inventory/Warehouse, Loading Dock Freight, and Material Handling.
  • Perform basic rough and finish carpentry work and prepare surfaces for paint, enamel, lacquer, varnish, or stain.
  • Repair doors, locks, hinges, ceiling tiles, and other facility maintenance.
  • Serve as Primary Backup for Mail Handling Operations.
  • Respond in a timely manner to scheduled/unscheduled tenant requests for maintenance issues.
  • Act as an overall Site Maintenance support specialist.
  • Report any damaged racks, faulty equipment, or safety hazards to supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, orderly work area.
  • Perform or assist in warehouse, grounds, and equipment maintenance as required.
  • Assist in Freight and Material Handling as needed.
  • Comply with all Dock master policies and procedures.
  • Comply with OSHA guidelines.
  • Participate in required training (e.g., Human Rights training).
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ work experience in carpentry and painting preferred.
  • Prior experience providing maintenance and repairs of buildings preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences, labels, and numbers.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to learn Bear Tracks Mail handling software.
  • Ability to add, subtract, and divide two-digit numbers.
  • Must pass criminal and drug screening processes to meet network and/or government eligibility requirements.
