About the role
MTC provides a safe and secure working environment for staff at the Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson, TX, while helping detainees gain valuable skills and treatment necessary for success upon release.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair of structures, electrical systems, heating, plumbing, ventilating, air conditioning and drainage systems.
- Recommend contracted assistance when on-site repair is not possible.
- Repair or replace faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets and fuses as directed.
- Perform minor construction and repair of structural woodwork.
- Install window shades or coverings, security locks, etc.
- Perform repair or replacement of plumbing fixtures, washers, seals, etc.
- Help prepare surfaces for finishing, i.e., painting, as directed.
- Coordinating the work of detainees assigned to facility maintenance as appropriate.
- Perform preventive maintenance checks of buildings and equipment.
- Perform routine schedules checks of air conditioning systems.
- Requires long periods of walking and standing. Climbing stairs and ladders as required for facility maintenance. Pushing and pulling of maintenance tool cart is required.
- Respond to emergency situations or equipment breakdowns.
- Provide cleaning, transportation, and moving of equipment as needed.
- Promote the development of positive social skills among detainees through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
- Maintain accountability of detainees and property; adhere to safety practices.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent, technical training and general knowledge of repair and maintenance.
- Three (3) years of maintenance or related experience required.
- Must have successfully completed required preservice training.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
