About the role

We are currently seeking a General Maintenance & Fleet Technician to work at our Burlington Red Cross Blood Center in Burlington, VT. This role involves performing repairs and maintenance in the Biomedical facility, supporting Regional Fleet Management, and managing the Regional Fleet Programs. The position requires on-call availability and a valid driver’s license. A $1,500 sign-on bonus and up to $8,000 annually in on-call pay are included.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and maintenance in one or more trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, and electrical.
• Conduct routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance needs for facilities, machinery, and equipment.
• Use hand and power tools to test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair machines and equipment.
• Provide customer service for Regional Fleet Management and facilities maintenance.
• Assist with the management of fleet operations, including motor vehicle registrations, maintenance, emergency safety equipment, and inventory.
• Manage ARC gasoline and minor maintenance cards, enforce authorized use of ARC vehicles, and handle vehicle sales, accidents, recovery, claims, and fleet budgets.
• Provide support, development, and leadership guidance to volunteers.
• Maintain and repair a 32,000 sq. ft. facility and manage a fleet of vehicles.
• Patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings; repair or replace concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks.
• Paint structures and equipment as needed; install and correct minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and structural problems.
• Document installation and repairs as required by regulatory agencies.
• Install, operate, and service boilers, chillers, motors, fans, pumps, and related mechanical equipment.
• Move and store furniture and equipment; estimate time and material costs for projects; requisition new supplies and equipment.
• Perform landscaping duties: plant and tend flowerbeds, prune shrubs and trees, water lawns, and apply fertilizer and insecticides.
• Maintain external areas: rake leaves, sweep walkways, remove snow using power equipment or shovels, and apply snow-melting chemicals.
• Drive vehicles to other locations as needed; perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in painting, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.
• Previous truck and/or bus driving experience is desirable.
• Basic writing, communication, and computer skills.
• Ability to work on a team and handle on-call duties.
• Valid driver’s license required; may require travel to other locations.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
• Frequently lift and/or move objects weighing 10–50 lbs.; occasionally lift objects over 100 lbs. with assistance or powered equipment.
• Frequently push carts weighing up to 250 lbs. on flat surfaces or ramps.
• Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally sit, climb, or balance.
• Ability to move/lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
• Use a variety of hand and power tools; work with chemicals and solvents.
• May require climbing ladders for top-level tasks.

Pay

The salary range for this position in Vermont is $25–$27 per hour. Salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location where the work is performed and may vary based on skills, experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.

Schedule

• Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (flexible, 40 hours per week).
• On-call availability required.
