General Foreman - UIC Construction

About the role

UIC Commercial Services seeks a General Foreman to oversee work crews on various miscellaneous projects under the direction of the Project Superintendent. This role is responsible for supervising day-to-day activities, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project plans and company standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, direct, and ensure the safety of work crews.
• Read and interpret plans and specifications, correct shop drawings, and utilize/maintain project schedule.
• Adhere to UICC Policies and Procedures, including Shareholder employment opportunities.
• Maintain worker safety and an accident-free work environment in strict compliance with OSHA rules.
• Perform quality control functions.
• Operate construction equipment, such as forklifts and loaders.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to supervise, direct, and ensure the safety of work crews in all aspects of commercial construction.
• Understanding of pile installation, survey pile points, framing, insulation, and vapor barrier installation.
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, correct shop drawings, and maintain project schedules.
• Commitment to worker safety and OSHA compliance.
• Ability to perform quality control functions independently without direct supervision.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Punctual and reliable work history; must be responsible and dependable in fulfilling obligations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of construction experience, including at least four (4) years in a foreman or supervisory role.

Physical and Mental Demands

• Strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; heavy lifting and carrying.
• Working on slippery or uneven surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding.
• Performing physical activities requiring use of arms, legs, and whole-body movement (e.g., climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, handling materials).
• Using hands and arms to handle, install, position, and manipulate materials.
• Exposure to loud noises and extremes of heat or cold.
• Wearing protective gear that may be uncomfortable.
• Moderate levels of stress due to the nature of the work environment.

Working Conditions

• Construction site environment.
• May work in close proximity to moving equipment.
