General Foreman

About the role

In this role, you will coordinate with crew members, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols. You will assign tasks, provide guidance and supervision, and ensure work is completed according to project specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects with a workforce of 50+ and a minimum of 5+ subordinate Foremen.
• Effectively communicate and coordinate work and activities with the project management team, GC, owner reps, crew members, and other trades.
• Forecast and order manpower, material, tools, and equipment needs well in advance to ensure availability when needed.
• Proceed with work via written and verbal instructions, plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Identify, schedule, and facilitate all jobsite-related inspections.
• Document and report all disciplinary issues to HR and implement actions or procedures as instructed.
• Perform 10-5-2-1 on all installation activities and complete a weekly SIS (Short Interval Schedule) with a minimum of 2 weeks forecasted.
• Participate in daily and weekly team meetings.
• Demonstrate expertise in trade-related materials, components, equipment, systems, methods of installation, safety procedures, safe work practices, basic calculations, blueprint and drawing interpretation, and troubleshooting.
• Possess leadership qualities to effectively direct a crew and meet or exceed project schedules, productivity standards, and monetary budgets.
• Supervise and manage all employees under your jurisdiction and evaluate them in a timely manner.
• Perform other project-related duties and assignments as instructed by a supervisor.
• Ensure a safe workplace, employee compliance with safety and health policy, and reduce exposure to liability risks such as theft or damage.

• Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to all lower-level employees.
• Interpret and apply electrical blueprints, internal shop drawings, architectural, civil, structural, plumbing, and utility blueprints.
• Demonstrate knowledge of construction scheduling and critical path management (CPM).
• Plan and schedule work for subordinate supervision, lead persons, and crew as needed.
• Complete administrative requirements and documentation accurately and timely, such as time sheets, labor coding, daily logs, material and tool requisitions, man loading schedules, incident/injury reports, and employee notifications.
• Interpret basic construction-related accounting reports (e.g., job cost and risk detail).
• Monitor labor productivity and quality control, directing the crew to meet project schedules and production quotas.
• Prepare detail drawings for jobs as needed.
• Direct and perform work within all applicable code standards (NEC, CEC, Title 24, Utility standards, City standards, etc.).
• Work with tools alongside the crew when required or as directed.
• Use digital technology and systems, including computers, iPads, phones, and all job-related software and applications.
• Forecast and identify training and development needs for all lower-level employees in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current General Electrical certification through the state.
• At least 5-10 years of related experience.

Skills

• Strong expertise in trade-related materials, components, equipment, systems, and methods of installation.
• Proficiency in interpreting and applying electrical, architectural, civil, structural, plumbing, and utility blueprints.
• Knowledge of construction scheduling and critical path management (CPM).
• Leadership qualities to effectively direct a crew.
• Proficiency in digital technology and systems, including job-related software and applications.
• Ability to interpret basic construction-related accounting reports (e.g., job cost and risk detail).
• Strong communication skills for detailed, important, and accurate instructions.

Work Environment

Regularly exposed to environmental conditions inside and outside, including inclement weather, cold, heat, and humidity. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Frequently exposed to vibrations, moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, machines, dust, and chemicals. May be required to function in crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, and other areas of close proximity. Occasionally required to work on elevated surfaces, including ladders and lifts.

• Constantly required to hear sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and distinguish sounds to avoid hazards.
• Required to have near and far-sighted visual acuity with or without correction to inspect small parts, use operating tools, measurement devices, and/or assemble or fabricate parts, as well as identify and read posted signs, instructions, and hazards.

Position Specific Requirements

• Must have a reliable method to travel to project locations.
• Must be able to travel and be away from the main domicile (home) location for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to work all required shift and/or overtime hours unless time off is previously requested and approved.
