General Foreman

About the role

We are seeking a General Foreman for our Forestry team. This role involves supervising vegetation management crews, ensuring proper administration of training, pay practices, employee hiring, promotion, and termination. The General Foreman assigns work, enforces safety practices, and investigates injury and damage claims as well as company disciplinary policy. They assume responsibility for the maintenance and accuracy of records, receive and interpret orders from utility personnel, and direct emergency crew operations. The role also involves conferring with customers, property owners, the general public, contractors, and representatives of utilities and governmental agencies.

Responsibilities

• Supervises vegetation management crews.
• Ensures utility specifications are followed.
• Coordinates with Superintendent and Program Coordinator.
• Pre-inspects projects and develops recommended management plans, matching labor and equipment resources to work and cost estimates.
• Maintains accurate project circuit maps noting project status, crew locations, and estimated completion dates.
• Inspects crews, start/stop times, and identification of project shop locations.
• Audits time sheets for accuracy.
• Assists with customer notifications and customer complaints.
• Previews work assignments and conducts post-work critiques for each crew.
• Maintains an adequate inventory of tools and supplies to support assigned crews.
• Coordinates activities with other General Foremen working with the utility to ensure customer requirements are achieved.
• Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

• Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and the requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to communicate and handle confrontations professionally.
• Must be able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, etc.). Subject to call-out work.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to communicate with various levels of field and management personnel and write reports.
• Must have the ability to evaluate circuit conditions and hours required to complete required clearances to utility specifications.
• Must have computer knowledge.
• Must be a Certified Arborist (International Society of Arboriculture).
• Must have field experience as a vegetation management crew member.

Schedule

This is a minimum 40-hour work week.
