About the role
We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert for a specific class of Transmission and Substation (T&S) Standards, particularly in Civil/Structural areas. The role involves managing Engineering Practices, Engineering Standard Practices, Material Specifications, Construction Specifications, and Generic Design Drawings. You will also collaborate with various departments to set and apply design and material standards, ensuring safety, effectiveness, and constructability.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for Civil/Structural T&S Standards, including management of Engineering Practices, Engineering Standard Practices, Material Specifications, Construction Specifications, and Generic Design Drawings.
- Work as a Point of Contact for technical questions related to material application and design standards.
- Collaborate with vendors on material design improvements and implementation.
- Collaborate with Equipment Specialists, Relay & Protection, Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Capacity Planning, Transmission Planning, Testing & Commissioning Engineering, field groups, etc. to set the design and material standards and applications while ensuring safety, effectiveness, and constructability of standards.
- Operate independently and seek guidance when appropriate.
- Provide recommendations for management and implement action plans to improve reliability.
- Provide detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others.
- Interface with applicable industry groups such as IEEE, EPRI, EEI, MEA, etc. to introduce new design improvements and materials.
- Investigate common points of failure modes and trends for the purpose of material or design standard improvements as well as supporting the analysis of extent of condition.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer (2) (3).
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches and engineering theory.
- Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices.
- Knowledge of complex field test equipment.
- 4-7 years of professional engineering experience (1) (3) (See Note).
- Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles necessary to perform very complex or unique assignments for a specific.
- Minimum of two related career experiences (4) (i.e., changes in technical job responsibilities, which may or may not include a change in department).
- OREngineer in Training OR 50% complete (by hours) with advanced technical degree, M.B.A. or Project Management Certification (1).
- A Master's degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (2) (3).
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with all management levels.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- A working knowledge of applicable analysis software packages.
- Ability to analyze industry-wide trends and implement enhancements.

- Annual salary varies based on skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $92,000.00/Yr. – $126,500.00/Yr.
