About the role
We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert for a specific class of Transmission and Substation (T&S) Standards, particularly in Civil/Structural areas. The role involves managing Engineering Practices, Engineering Standard Practices, Material Specifications, Construction Specifications, and Generic Design Drawings. You will also serve as a point of contact for technical questions related to material application and design standards.
Responsibilities
- Reviews, updates, and facilitates the development of T&S design standards, collaborating with various departments to ensure effective standard implementation.
- Provides technical expertise to strategic, legislative, and operational decisions.
- Collaborates with vendors on material design improvements and implementation.
- Interfaces with industry groups such as IEEE, EPRI, EEI, MEA, etc., to introduce new design improvements and materials.
- Investigates common points of failure modes and trends for the purpose of material or design standard improvements.
- Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others.
- Operates independently and leads multi-discipline teams.
- Implements action plans to improve reliability.
- Works with Vendors on material design improvements and implementation.
- Collaborates with Equipment Specialists, Relay & Protection, Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Capacity Planning, Transmission Planning, Testing & Commissioning Engineering, field groups, etc. to set the design and material standards and applications while ensuring safety, effectiveness, and constructability of standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer (2) (3)
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems
- Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches and engineering theory
- Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices
- Knowledge of complex field test equipment
- 4-7 years of professional engineering experience (1) (3)
- Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles necessary to perform very complex or unique assignments for a specific
- Minimum of two related career experiences (4) (i.e., changes in technical job responsibilities, which may or may not include a change in department)
- OREngineer in Training OR50% complete (by hours) with advanced technical degree, M.B.A. or Project Management Certification (1)
- Master's degree in Engineering reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (2) (3)
- Knowledge of Civil and Structural engineering designs, principles, and practices

- Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate with all management levels
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- A working knowledge of applicable analysis software packages
