About the role
The Behavior Interventionist provides leadership and direction at the school level, working to design, implement, coordinate and evaluate a comprehensive behavior support program. They work directly and aggressively with identified students to adopt behaviors that substantially increase social emotional and academic outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
- Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders.
- Collaborates with teachers, school counselors, school psychologists and administrators to identify students in need of behavior intervention.
- Models and coaches the implementation of positive classroom management techniques in the classroom.
- Works directly with students and their parents to modify behaviors to reach successful outcomes.
- Teaches supplemental concepts and skills to children placed in general education situations.
- Facilitates team meetings with the identified student's teachers and parents for the purpose of completing a functional behavioral assessment.
- Facilitate team meetings that: design behavior interventions plans; address classroom organization, effective instruction, social skills instruction, and possible mental health issues.
- Works with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, medical or mental such as 504s, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions.
- Promotes highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice.
- Uses ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress.
- Develops a repertoire of assessment strategies consistent with instructional goals, teaching methods, and individual student needs to more accurately assess student behavior skills and understandings.
- Provides recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
- Engages parents in the "student behavior intervention plan" process and empowers parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child.
- Reviews behavior referrals and data reports.
- Attends Mental Wellness Team as appropriate and makes referrals to Mental Wellness Teams for coordination of services for students.
- Serves as a consultant to administrators, teachers, and parents.
- Provides behavioral support and crisis management when needed which may include Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Certification Early Childhood, Elementary or Middle Level Education, as appropriate.
- Special Education.
- School Counselor - Elementary or Middle.
- School Psychologist I, II, or III.
Qualifications

Skills
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies.
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations.
- Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities.
- Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties.
- Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information.
- Ability to interact and communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.
- Personal computer experience required.
- Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
- Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory.
- Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines.
- Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group.
- Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines.
- Some extended hours and multiple demands from several people are frequently required of the employee.
- Computer literacy required.
