General Contractor Construction Superintendent

Qualifications

A qualified Commercial Construction Superintendent should possess a four-year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. Equivalent certifications such as PMP or CCM, or relevant experience, may be considered. Candidates must have 4–6 years of experience managing large, complex commercial construction projects.

• Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and comprehensive knowledge of construction trades, means, and methods
• Expertise in OSHA regulations and jobsite safety enforcement
• Proficiency in CPM scheduling, resource planning, building codes, and project management software (Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Procore)
• Physical capability to lift up to 80 pounds and perform inspections in various weather conditions, including confined spaces, scaffolding, ladders, roofs, and multi-story structures
• Regional travel may be required based on project needs

Responsibilities

A Commercial Construction Superintendent serves as the contractor’s on-site representative and is responsible for the overall field supervision, coordination, and successful completion of projects in accordance with safety, quality, budget, code, and schedule requirements.

• Oversee daily construction activities and develop/maintain detailed CPM schedules
• Coordinate subcontractors and conduct project meetings
• Manage procurement of tools and materials
• Ensure work is completed according to plans and specifications
• Enforce OSHA and company safety standards, conduct daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and lead safety meetings and inspections
• Maintain organized, safe job sites
• Document daily reports in Procore
• Anticipate and resolve design, safety, and scheduling challenges
• Coordinate closely with project management and interpret contract documents
• Develop subcontractor scopes of work
• Foster positive relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors
• Manage project closeout activities, including inspections, punch lists, warranty work, and site demobilization

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move, lift, carry, store, and transport materials and equipment weighing 80 pounds or more
• Capability to inspect all areas of a construction project in various weather conditions, involving stooping, bending, climbing, pushing, crawling, stretching, and other physically demanding activities
• Flexibility to travel as needed based on project location and demands
• Availability to respond to jobsite delays, emergencies, adverse weather conditions, and other unforeseen issues

Pay

Superintendent compensation is based on demonstrated accountability and performance, not tenure, effort, or job title alone. Compensation varies based on internal capability bands.
