General Construction Superintendent
About the Role
Paragon offers a wide range of environmental investigation, consulting, compliance, and remediation services as well as IT solutions, Facility O&M, Materiel Support, Supply and Security to both private- and public-sector clients throughout Alaska and the Continental U.S. This position is based in El Paso, TX.
Responsibilities
- Manage the onsite performance of construction to achieve safety, schedule, and financial objectives.
- Conduct a daily standup before work begins each day.
- Prepare and maintain a three-week look-ahead schedule of activities from long-range planning with the project assigned QC update at all times.
- Participate in and prepare pay applications provided to the government.
- Maintain a positive work order in the field office.
- Maintain a clean, orderly work site at the close of each workday.
- Enforce safe work practices with updated Activity Hazard Analysis and mitigate risks.
- Coordinate with Quality Control to organize and maintain follow-up inspections of each feature of work and workmanship in alignment with the contract documents.
- Maintain an amicable work relationship with subcontractors.
- Serve as the on-site point of contact for Subcontractors and coordinate their requirements within the limits of the approved baseline schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma and relevant trade or craft certifications.
- 15 years of experience in a wide range of trades and projects.
- OSHA 30 certification (mandatory).
- Valid USACE QCM Certificate.
- Frequent moves across the United States are anticipated.
- Must provide a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
Skills
- Demonstrated drive to manage the project daily each workday.
- Demonstrated knowledge of network analysis scheduling.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contract management of subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to present verbal, written, and audio-visual progress meeting minutes to client representatives.
- Provide an onsite presence daily while work is progressing in the field.
- Be available for ad hoc meetings for outages, issues, and complications that arise.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some trade or craft secondary education or equivalent years of experience.
- A credible certification in a trade specialty.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. of awkward load into a pickup truck daily.
- Must be able to walk and maneuver on rough terrain and slopes that are somewhat graded.
- Demonstrated judgment of unsafe conditions, building, and environmentally compromised spaces.
- Employees must always maintain a constant state of mental alertness.
Work Environment
The work environment includes initial site investigations through clearing and grubbing of forested areas and heavy undergrowth to the entrance into shored excavations. Early on-site work is likely to include uneven terrain. Placement of various types of foundation exposed reinforcing steel and presence of pile driving equipment. There will also be many types of false work and shoring of building elements until stabilized. Be aware of loads at height that may shift without notice. In building fit-outs, there may be the presence of chemicals and mixtures of chemicals that may require additional personal protective equipment. Physical setting may be adverse to finish office space and cleanup.
Schedule
- Maintain good order such that construction work is executed within the contract hours or schedule calendar.
- Flexibility to the demands of the work requirements, including outages of utilities, startup, TAB, and commissioning activities that may dictate extended work hours, weekends, and holidays.
Additional Requirements
- Pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results.
- If applicable to the contract, obtain and maintain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
