About the role
The primary purpose of this role is to perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.
Responsibilities
- High dusting: using a treated high duster to clean high surfaces above shoulder height, such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges, in a counter-clockwise direction around the room.
- Cleaning the high duster: gently brushing it in a downward direction into the service cart.
- Sanitizing/spot cleaning: using a germicidal solution to sanitize surfaces below shoulder height, such as ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trashcans, in a counter-clockwise direction around the room.
- Bathroom cleaning: using a germicidal solution to wipe down sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls, and cleaning the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and proper germicidal solution.
- Emptying trash cans: removing liners, wiping down trash cans, and replacing liners.
- Floor dusting or vacuuming: using a treated dust mophead or vacuum to clean floors, including under furniture and in restrooms.
- Grounds care: cleaning and checking outside areas, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash and cigarette butts, and spot cleaning spills.
- Public common areas: dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, and checking planters for bird waste.
- Food court: cleaning, removing trash, and sanitizing tables, and emptying and cleaning trash cans.
- Floor sanitizing: using a germicidal solution to sanitize floors, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
- Inspection: mentally reviewing cleaning steps and visually checking furniture placement after completing a room.
- Customer relations and service: knocking lightly on doors before entering, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions, and reporting any broken or out-of-order items to supervisors.
Qualifications
This role requires knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work, basic methods and materials used in janitorial work, and basic safe work practices. The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, communicate with coworkers and supervisors, and operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment is also necessary.
The role requires maintaining a physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties, which may include walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting and carrying equipment and supplies, and climbing stairs and ladders.
