Responsibilities
- Explain advanced topics such as chemical kinetics, chemical equilibrium, acid-base chemistry, solubility equilibria, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, and transition metal chemistry.
- Teach rate laws, equilibrium expressions, the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, standard reduction potentials, and entropy concepts while preparing students for organic chemistry, biochemistry, and professional school admissions testing.
- Break down equilibrium problem-solving, acid-base titration analysis, and thermodynamic spontaneity predictions.
- Guide students through constructing ICE tables, interpreting titration curves, calculating cell potentials, and applying Hess’s law for enthalpy calculations.
- Emphasize systematic problem-solving strategies and connect general chemistry to biological systems, environmental chemistry, and materials science applications.
- Adapt instruction using molecular visualizations, practice problem sets, and conceptual checkpoint questions to support pre-health, engineering, and science majors.
- Identify concepts students commonly struggle with and explain material using multiple approaches tailored to individual learning needs.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of second-semester general chemistry curricula, including chemical kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base systems, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry.
- Familiarity with common student challenges, such as distinguishing strong from weak acid-base systems, applying Le Chatelier’s principle quantitatively, and conceptualizing entropy and free energy.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
