Responsibilities
- Explain complex topics such as chemical kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base chemistry, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry.
- Guide students through problem-solving strategies, including ICE tables, titration curves, cell potentials, and Hess’s law.
- Adapt instruction using molecular visualizations, practice problems, and conceptual checkpoints for diverse learners.
- Connect general chemistry concepts to real-world applications in biological systems, environmental chemistry, and materials science.
- Provide 1-on-1 online tutoring and accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.
Requirements
- Advanced mastery of General Chemistry 2 topics: chemical kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base chemistry, solubility equilibria, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, and transition metal chemistry.
- Ability to teach rate laws, equilibrium expressions, Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, standard reduction potentials, and entropy concepts.
- Experience preparing students for organic chemistry, biochemistry, and professional school admissions testing.
- Skill in breaking down complex problems (e.g., equilibrium, acid-base titrations, thermodynamic spontaneity).
- Familiarity with second-semester general chemistry curricula and common student challenges (e.g., strong vs. weak acids, Le Chatelier’s principle, entropy).
- Strong communication skills and an engaging, adaptive teaching style.
- Ability to identify and address individual learning needs and styles.
