Responsibilities
- Explain advanced General Chemistry 2 topics, including chemical kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base chemistry, solubility equilibria, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, and transition metal chemistry.
- Teach rate laws, equilibrium expressions, the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation, standard reduction potentials, and entropy concepts in preparation for organic chemistry, biochemistry, and professional school admissions testing.
- Break down complex problem-solving, such as equilibrium analysis, acid-base titration, and thermodynamic spontaneity predictions.
- Guide students through constructing ICE tables, interpreting titration curves, calculating cell potentials, and applying Hess’s law for enthalpy calculations.
- Emphasize systematic problem-solving strategies and connect general chemistry to biological systems, environmental chemistry, and materials science.
- Adapt instruction using molecular visualizations, practice problem sets, and conceptual checkpoint questions for pre-health, engineering, and science majors.
- Identify and address common student challenges, such as distinguishing strong vs. weak acid-base systems, applying Le Chatelier’s principle quantitatively, and conceptualizing entropy and free energy.
- Provide personalized instruction through 1-on-1 online tutoring or accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of General Chemistry 2 topics, including chemical kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base chemistry, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry.
- Ability to explain complex concepts (e.g., rate laws, equilibrium expressions, Henderson-Hasselbalch equation) clearly and effectively.
- Familiarity with second-semester general chemistry curricula and common student challenges.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including constructing ICE tables, interpreting titration curves, and calculating cell potentials.
- Adaptive teaching methods to meet individual learning needs and styles.
- Excellent communication skills and an engaging, friendly teaching style.
