General Assignment Reporter/Weekend Weather Anchor

About the role

KATU/KUNP is seeking a General Assignment Reporter/Weekend Weather Anchor to cover the weekend news and report three days a week. The ideal candidate should be a take-charge individual with strong writing and storytelling skills, excellent live shot abilities, and a can-do attitude.

Responsibilities

• Create, shoot, write and edit meaningful stories for station’s newscast that can be used across multiple platforms
• Engage with local community members
• Forecast, produce and present clear and concise weather casts, which tell a story and connect with viewers
• Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events
• Utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories
• Make public appearances on behalf of the station
• Review material for fairness, accuracy, and balance
• Work closely with all members of the news team, including Producers, Editors, Anchors, News Directors etc.

Requirements

• Proven knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools and contemporary newsroom systems
• Strong writing and copy-editing skills are a must
• Able to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines
• Experience with active and visual live shots
• In-depth knowledge of forecasting
• Sharp news judgment and exceptional writing skills
• Ability to multitask while meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology is welcomed, however, we will accept an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• 2 years’ experience in weather presentation and reporting preferred
• 2+ years of experience as a Reporter
