GEAR UP Program Specialist (Grant-Funded)

About the role

The GEAR UP Program Specialist position is a grant-funded opportunity at Mohawk Valley Community College. This position serves GEAR UP students at target school sites, providing academic, social, and emotional support through various services and activities.

Responsibilities

• Serves GEAR UP students at target school sites by collaborating with district teachers and staff to meet their academic, social, and emotional needs.
• Delivers direct academic, social, and emotional support services such as individual tutoring, supplemental instruction, and arranging/coordinating student participation in academic opportunities.
• Communicates regularly with parents/guardians to ensure their awareness and involvement in student academic performance and participation in GEAR UP activities.
• Designs and implements educational activities, materials, programs, services, and strategies in classrooms, seminars, workshops, and summer programs for program participants.
• Maintains accurate data, records, and student files to document all services delivered to GEAR UP participants.
• Ensures accurate and timely documentation of all services in accordance with federal and state GEAR UP reporting requirements.
• Collaborates with community partners to facilitate the provision of community-based services.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of College Pipeline Programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one (1) year’s experience tutoring/teaching junior and senior high school students.
• Ability to travel to multiple work locations and work a flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and for the duration of employment.
• Preferred qualifications include experience working with an urban population of high school juniors and seniors, college-level teaching/tutoring, and a degree in math or science.
