About the Role

As a member of the Power Conversion Co-op/Intern Engineering Team, you will contribute to providing electrical power conversion systems for Naval, industry, marine, and Oil & Gas applications. The role involves working on medium and low voltage power converters, motors, transformers, E-house, switchgear, control systems, and associated power systems engineering. As part of the advanced concepts team, you will help develop the latest power electronics technologies, including switching and cooling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all designs and practices implement and foster a culture of safety, quality, and value.
  • Learn to prepare and review detailed technical specifications for large industry, marine, and naval power converters that meet customer requirements.
  • Develop and define the base software package (software with a list of libraries/system versions, test reports) for typical project configurations.
  • Create engineering artifacts for specific power converters, including software specifications, control specifications, software, control drawings, factory acceptance test procedures, and commissioning instructions.
  • Learn to create models of power electronic controls for use in power quality and system stability studies.
  • Learn HMI/Control/Process coding.
  • Develop test plans in accordance with basic requirements and the electrical power plant.
  • Use offline and real-time models of the electrical power electronics plant, propose and implement model improvements.
  • Learn to manage the software design process for power converters on specific projects.
  • Understand the principles of power converter software, software specifications, control specifications, real-time response models, and control & automation hardware drawings to meet detailed customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an engineering school from an accredited university with a specialty in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship for an unlimited amount of time.
  • Familiarity with coding and other computer programming tools.
  • Experience with development of MATLAB code or similar software (Python, C++, etc.).
  • Experience with modeling in AUTOCAD, ANSYS, or CREO.

Pay

The pay for this position ranges from $21.00/hr to $34.00/hr based on years of undergraduate/graduate field of study completed.

  • Relocation Assistance: Co-op/Interns will be reimbursed for reasonable, proper, and documented expenditures incurred while initially reporting to work and returning to school/home upon completion of the assignment. Employees with a permanent address greater than 50 miles away from the work location are eligible.

Schedule

  • Internship Term Dates: Spring (Jan–Apr), Summer (Jun–Aug), Fall (Sep–Nov).
  • Expected Work Schedule: Day/1st shift, 40 hours weekly.
