Gatehouse Attendant (Part-Time)
Position Overview & General Responsibilities
As a Gatehouse Attendant at Sunnyside, you'll be the first point of contact for residents, visitors, and team members, offering a warm greeting and ensuring everyone’s safety on our campus. Your role is crucial in maintaining a secure environment by verifying vehicle tags and ensuring that all visitors have proper authorization to enter. You'll be responsible for monitoring the entrance and exit, providing watchful oversight, and reporting any concerns to the appropriate personnel. Your interactions with residents, their families, and employees—both current and prospective—play an important part in shaping their experience with us. Whether offering directions, providing campus maps, or simply sharing a smile, you'll make a meaningful impact as you guide everyone on their way to their destination!
Responsibilities
- Ensure Safety & Security: Act as a welcoming presence while assisting visitors, emergency response teams, and guests with clear, helpful directions. You’ll oversee the entry and exit points, ensuring that only authorized individuals are granted access to the campus. Keep an eye out for any irregularities or potential safety hazards, swiftly reporting any concerns to leadership to maintain a secure yet welcoming environment.
- Provide Exceptional Service: Greet and assist residents, employees, and visitors with a warm, professional attitude, making sure every interaction leaves a positive impression. You’ll play a key role in fostering a friendly, safe atmosphere and providing smooth, hassle-free experiences for entering campus. Whether helping with directions, supporting the Transportation department, collaborating with team members, or assisting with special requests, you’ll always represent Sunnyside’s commitment to excellence.
- Follow Protocols: Ensure thorough screening of visitors, contractors, employees, and residents to maintain the safety and integrity of the campus. Whether it’s helping with entry & exit, following vehicle accident policies, or adhering to other important procedures, you’ll be committed to upholding Sunnyside’s standards and ensuring arriving to campus is a smooth experience. Follow vehicle accident policy RS.047 timely if involved in an auto accident.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Have a friendly, well informed and courteous attitude
- Law enforcement, military, security or public service experience is a plus
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Good active listening skills and ability to process information accurately, make appropriate decisions, and take appropriate action based on the information available
- Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately
- Current Virginia driver's license and meets driver eligibility requirements per Sunnyside policy HR069
- Ability to use basic office equipment including multi-line phone
- Ability to work with confidential information and maintain its' integrity
- Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach to engaging with all individuals
Schedule
Part-time, Days and Hours Vary. Weekend / Holiday rotation availability required. Shift start times: 7 am or 1 pm; shift end times: 1 pm or 7 pm.

Work is completed both indoors and outdoors. The environment will be affected by weather and temperatures outside. This position has the potential to require standing for an extended amount of time or going from sitting to standing frequently.
