About the role

The GI technician performs a variety of duties in the GI Unit related to maintaining a safe, efficient and supportive environment for patients undergoing procedures in the Gastroenterology Unit with a focus on the Patient Family Centered Care model in an environment that exemplifies best practice. He/she will assist nurses and physicians in the care of these patients.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a clean, safe and organized environment for the cleaning and disinfection of scopes
  • Cleans and disinfects endoscopes using established guidelines
  • Greets patient and families in a professional manner
  • Maintains and organizes supplies/ordering as needed
  • Stocks and sets up rooms for the next day
  • Affords support to ensure efficient and confidential flow of information
  • Communicates patient information to licensed nurse in a timely manner
  • Enters accurate demographic information in to computer in procedure rooms
  • Answers telephone and screens calls in a courteous manner. Relays accurate messages to appropriate personnel.
  • Filings and retrieves patient records, collates charts and delivers mail to mailroom.
  • Affords assistance to nursing staff to facilitate efficient room turnover
  • Escorts patients to changing rooms. Assists patient with gowning and locking of valuables if necessary. Assists patients with redressing when appropriate to discharge.
  • Affords assistance to the nurse with transfer of patients to procedure rooms from the waiting room and from the procedure room to the recovery area.

Requirements

  • 1 year prior experience as nursing assistant or medical technician preferred
  • Basic clerical skills such as organizing paperwork, filing, answering telephones, paging.
  • Restocking patient rooms.
  • Ordering/Organizing stock.
  • Cleaning designated equipment.
  • Providing safe and accurate transport for patients/supplies/specimens.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Skills

Staff adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards. Basic clerical skills such as organizing paperwork, filing, answering telephones, paging. Restocking patient rooms. Ordering/Organizing stock. Cleaning designated equipment. Providing safe and accurate transport for patients/supplies/specimens.

Pay

$18.99 - $28.21/Hourly

Schedule

Day Shift, Full Time 40 hours 7a-5:30 or 8a-6:30p. No Nights, No weekends, No Call.
