Gas Apprentice 1st Step
Ameren Illinois provides electric transmission and distribution service and natural gas distribution service. Every day, we deliver electricity to 1.2 million electric and 816,000 natural gas customers in central and southern Illinois, serving more than 1,200 communities.
About the role
Perform gas service duties including responding to gas emergencies (e.g., leaks, carbon monoxide, fire calls), setting and maintaining residential and large commercial gas meter installations, performing pipe work on customer premises, and working on gas appliances. Must be willing to work shift work and be available for overtime and emergency call-outs.
Responsibilities
- Respond to gas emergencies (leaks, carbon monoxide, fire calls, etc.)
- Install and maintain residential and large commercial gas meters
- Perform pipe work on customer premises
- Maintain knowledge of gas appliances
- Work shift schedules, including overtime and emergency call-outs
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Welding, pipefitting, HVAC, and/or excavating equipment operation experience preferred
- Must obtain and maintain a Class A CDL license
- Must become respirator qualified
- Ability to work with the public and be available for shift work and overtime
- Must pass the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test
- Successful completion of Gas Evaluations
- Must pass State/Federal driver’s licensing requirements, physical, and drug screening
- Must reside within 25 miles of the operating location
Pay
Hourly pay: $42.58 (Grade Step BG 006 Step 1 of 1, top step). Position is eligible for annual incentive payments based on company performance, subject to management discretion.

Day shift - Monday through Friday. Position is covered by the Pipefitters bargaining agreement.
