About the role
SJS Executives is seeking experienced Gardeners for a possible upcoming contract in Montgomery and Tuskegee, Alabama supporting ongoing maintenance operations at two federal medical facilities. Position Contingent upon Award. SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 250 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.
Pay
The pay for this position is expected to be $20.18 per hour plus an additional $5.09/hr for Health and Welfare totaling $25.27/hr.

Responsibilities
- Maintain landscaped areas, lawns, and exterior grounds at federal facilities
- Use blowers to clean parking lots, sidewalks, entrances, and other exterior areas
- Collect and dispose of trash from outdoor receptacles
- Perform weed trimming and vegetation control as needed
- Install pine straw, mulch, and prepare flower beds for seasonal planting and maintenance
- Remove leaves and debris from sidewalks, roadways, lawns, and other exterior surfaces
- Mow grass using push lawn mowers and other landscaping equipment
- Trim hedges, shrubs, and other ornamental landscaping to maintain a professional appearance
- Operate landscaping tools and equipment safely while following established safety procedures
Qualifications
- In accordance with federal regulations, possession of a valid Real ID is a requirement for this position
- Minimum of 3 years of grounds maintenance, landscaping, or gardening experience
- Experience operating landscaping equipment including blowers, push mowers, weed trimmers, and hedge trimmers
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including temperatures exceeding 100°F
- Ability to work on ladders, at heights, and in confined spaces when required
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods
- Ability to work in noisy environments while wearing appropriate hearing protection
- Ability to work safely around dust, dirt, machinery, chemicals, oils, fumes, and other occupational hazards
- Ability to wear an OSHA-approved respirator when required and successfully complete required fit testing
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, eye protection, hearing protection, and approved face protection
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred
- Ability to comply with all applicable federal safety regulations and workplace policies
- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation
