Gardener

About the role

The Gardener provides general gardening care and grounds maintenance for trees, lawns, turf, shrubs, hedges, ground cover, flowers, and athletic fields under a government contract. Work includes both routine tasks and special assignments.

Responsibilities

• Mowing, trimming, edging, fertilization, pruning, debris and weed removal
• Tree staking, berm maintenance, and limb removal
• Maintaining improved and semi-improved grounds
• Building and maintaining irrigation systems (valves, vacuum breakers, backflow preventers, pressure regulators, irrigation connections, sprinkler heads, bubblers, risers, underground piping, controls, time clocks, and other water-emitting devices)
• Operating motorized equipment such as tractors, weed eaters, and chain saws
• Driving to outlying areas as required
• Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

• Ability to drive manual shift equipment up to a two-ton truck
• Proficiency with hand tools (shovels, rakes, lawn rollers, pruning saws, shears, hand mowers, hula hoes, etc.)
• Compliance with all safety requirements and proper use of personal protective equipment
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
• Must pass a background investigation for the company and the base
• Valid state driver’s license
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
• Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs

$24.08 hourly
