FY27: Lunch Hour Aide, 2 hrs / 10 mos, Wayside ES, TPT

About the role

Under general supervision, monitors student activities and behavior on the playground and during student lunch periods. Monitors class during testing or brief absence of teacher; may assist teachers in classroom activities, and perform general clerical tasks.

Physical Demands

• Ability to patrol for extended periods of time and during all types of weather.
• Ability to supervise playground/recreational activities, including the enforcement of safety rules, appropriate behavior standards, and playground/cafeteria rules and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Monitor student activities and behavior on the playground and during lunch periods.
• Supervise classes during testing or brief teacher absences.
• Assist teachers in classroom activities.
• Perform general clerical tasks.
• Enforce safety rules, behavior standards, and playground/cafeteria procedures.

Requirements

• High School or GED diploma required.
• Experience working with children of elementary school age.
• First aid and CPR certificate desirable.
• Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered.

Skills

• Knowledge of applicable school regulations, practices, and procedures, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
• Knowledge of games appropriate for play during recess.
• Some knowledge of child development and student behavior management techniques.
• Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and others.
• Ability to monitor elementary students and supervise playground and recreational activities.
• Considerable patience and demonstrated skills in working with children.
• Excellent human relations skills.
• Knowledge of and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Pay

The wage range for this assignment is between $18.00 and $20.00 per hour. The exact wage depends on multiple factors including but not limited to: the nature of the project, prior experience in MCPS, and current negotiated agreements.

Schedule

• Start time: 11:15 AM to 1:15 PM.
• Part-time, 10 working months.
• Day shift.

This is a Temporary Part-Time (TPT) position at Wayside Elementary School in Potomac, and does not include benefits.
