About the role

Under direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities and assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with general education teachers.
• Monitor and evaluate outcomes for students with disabilities.
• Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Requirements

• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement.
• Successfully complete specific MCPS courses, particularly behavioral management which includes nonviolent crisis interventions, for teachers in special education schools or discrete special education service
