FY27: Long Term Substitute Counselor, Bel Pre ES, Full Time

About the Role

Under direction, provides a comprehensive developmental program of guidance and counseling to assist students in academic achievement, career/educational decision-making, and personal and social development. Acts as a consultant to school staff, parents, and community members in these areas.

This is a temporary part-time position from August 17, 2026, to November 12, 2026, working full-time hours during 10 working months on a day shift schedule.

Responsibilities

• Deliver guidance and counseling services to support students’ academic, career/educational, and personal/social development.
• Consult with school staff, parents, and community members on student development and counseling-related matters.
• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance and counseling.
• Meets Maryland state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.
• Experience as a teacher and/or counselor preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures, Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program, and Program of Studies.
• Knowledge of growth and development stages of children.
• Ability to read, take notes, and interpret written material.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with staff, students, and parents.
• Proficiency in using computers and other technological equipment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to speak effectively to large and small groups.
• Strong human relations skills with the ability to establish positive relationships with diverse individuals and groups.

Pay

The wage range for this assignment is between $18.00 and $35.00 per hour. The exact wage depends on multiple factors, including the nature of the project, prior experience in MCPS, and current negotiated agreements.
