Counselor - Long Term Substitute (All Grades)

About the role

The counselor implements research-based instructional strategies to enhance student learning. Responsibilities include developing a supportive school and classroom culture, individualizing instruction based on student needs, and collaborating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Maintain competency in subject matter areas and receive necessary training.
• Employ assessment methods to identify student proficiency and develop tailored programs.
• Build harmonious relationships with students, parents, and community members.
• Promote and support district goals as outlined in the strategic plan.
• Participate in educational committees and organizations for personal and professional growth.
• Develop culturally responsive lessons that address diverse community interests and needs.
• Supervise and train instructional paraprofessionals.
• Adhere to ethical standards and district policies.
• Write and submit weekly lesson plans and maintain digital records.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Education required; Master's Degree preferred.
• Experience: 6+ years with a Bachelor's, 8+ years with a Master's.
• Alaska Teacher Certificate required.
• Three years of teaching experience preferred.
• Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures and languages.
• Proficiency in using Rubicon Atlas for cultural unit development.
